Jackson has been compared to a young Richard Thompson and for once these are not empty words. He has the same innate understanding of the frailty of the human condition as Thompson, and songs like the bleak ‘Leather And Chrome’, the tale of a son fulfilling his dead father’s dream to cross the States on a motorcycle, will surely moisten the driest of eyes. One great song just follows another, with soulful vocals and driving acoustic guitar backed up by Andy Sharps and Connor Downs on bass and percussion. Every so often a new voice emerges, one so stunning that it knocks you sideways, and when it’s someone who’s only 22 years old, it’s all the more remarkable.
